Users are forgetting that replies to a message should occur in threads. Please give admins the ability to move (in bulk) messages into the thread of another message.
Yes please!! +1
Would've voted more if i could!
Not a day goes by where I dont have to kindly ask a colleague to copy/paste & delete their channel post into a ongoing thread.
I think slack has given up making anything new.
Sad to see that this started over a year ago and it hasn't been implemented. The lack of this feature is why we don't get better Slack adoption. Too many channels' history are unusable due to lack of people replying in threads.
YES PLEASE! i'm tired of yelling at people to use threads! would LOVE to have this feature!
+1 ... would be nice to help keep things neat
Absolutely. This isn't just about cleaning up channels, its also a really great way to gently remind people to use threads. Whenever we introduce a new practice (like using threads) we look for direct, non-violent ways to enforce it.
+++ Another vote for this. All the reasons are already named, hopefully the Slack sysadmins check these threads!
We manage a lot of large channels. Thread management actions such as "Move to Thread" or "Create Channel from Thread" could make a big difference to how effectively we communicate in slack.
a drag-and-drop interface would be so nice to get unorganized messages into a thread
As a Slack admin this would be the biggest quality of life change for us right now. Please allow us to delegate to all users as well.
A must for a curated channel. Should be for Admins and channel-creators (better even would be a role of "moderator").
Also a second channel type - threaded channel - would be a possible solution. In these channels under each top-Level-message sits a button „reply“, which Posts automatically in the message‘s thread. For creating a new top-Level-message one has to click on „new topic“ or the like, which would replace the current „send“-button.
No complex user-roles, rather simple UI-changes, still much better than at the moment.
Please! Users DO forget about it and a clean channel becomes a bit of a mess.
This is a must have! Please!
This would work best if admins could move any message into another message's thread and any user could move their own messages into any other message's thread, all within the same channel (a separate feature might be the ability to move messages to a different channel).
The new thread messages should keep their same date as the original post, so they'd appear in the thread in the order they were posted and merge with any existing thread messages correctly.
A useful UX would be the ability to multi select and deselect messages, ideally with a shift click to select all between the first and last selection, where you could deselect a message in the middle that shouldn't be moved (and got lost in the should-be-a-thread conversation).
After selection, a drag and drop into the message whose thread the messages should move to would work nicely. Moving a single message to a thread could be a drag and drop without the need to select first.
Another +++++ here.I am tired of reminding ppl to use threads!
Please implement this. It causes a lot of frustration to have to constantly remind folks to use threads.
One addition: this feature should be available to regular members with regard to their own messages (and the thread attached started by their message) and maybe it would make sense to introduce a channel admin/moderator role, which would have this right regarding all messages on the channel.
One open problem: if the new message (maybe even with it's own thread) should be move to an existing thread, how should the two threads merge as slack doesn't allow multiple levels of threads?
There should also be a "moderator" role with access to this feature and the ability to move posts to another channel as well!
Please implement it asap. This is a must for admins
Yessssss! This needs to happen!
Yes! Please. The reason people find it difficult to use slack in our organisation is that It becomes messy and hard to find useful information. And deleting someone's message feels too harsh and you don't want to be the guy/girl who goes around parenting.
Often I only realize stuff needs to be in a thread after it generates a lot of comments that are getting in the way of other discussions. +1 for this feature!
Resurrecting this. This would be extremely useful for our project channels that often have multiple unrelated conversations going at the same time.
This would be awesome to have as an option for non-admins to be able to move their mesasges into threads, maybe within a few minutes of posting, just like edits. Sometimes I forget to thread a message
+1 for us as well, this would be a great feature to clean up noisy Channels
Just caught myself replying out of thread, I would love to roll up the entire convo into 1.
for me, no need to make this admin only, I'm happy for users to migrate conversations to threads
@Mark Hardwick: Also open to this being open to all users. In fact, it would further encourage and promote the use of threads if everyone played a part in the moving of messages into threads.
+1 for Author as well...
I would love this ability! People are always forgetting to use threads and as the OP mentions reminding them to is tiresome and not always effective.
I think it would be already helpful and perhaps more easy to implement as a "Replace". This would imply a Delete of the original message and have it posted again inside the Thread
Agreed! I need this already and have been using it for less than 2 hours!
Please, allow use to move messages into threads. Users DO forget about it and a clean channel becomes a bit of a mess.
This is a must have
Yes! I manage some thread-only channels and I'm sick of reminding people to thread replies!
I think this is an admin thing that people who don't actively manage their Slack teams won't see the importance of. I've been waiting for this feature ever since I joined Slack since it can become annoying to repeatedly remind people to make their replies as a thread.
@Lumumba Shakur: +1 — it's getting tiring (and controversial) to remind people about threads and suggest they use them. It would be great if this feature was added for all users or added for admins and allow them to delegate access to the feature to specific users.
@Lumumba Shakur: Not just admins! This drives me up the wall in every channel I'm in
