Hi, we use slack extensively in our org to work with various teams, and there are numerous channels per team to keep order of things. However in the channel column the alphabetical sort mixes things up. I want request setting up sub groups for channels in channel list, it would be awesome. e.g. Topic: Eng -: Backend eng -: Frontend eng -: Database eng Topic: Business team -: HR -: Sales -: Sales Eng so on and so forth.
Do not disturb during weekend
It would be nice to have a setting to automatically be in "Do not disturb" mode during the weekend (or specific week days).
BCC-like distribution channels
The goal is to replace email, right? Occasionally I have need to broadcast the same message to a private list of employees and manage their response and any subsequent conversation without them ever seeing each other or who it was sent to. Like mass BCC. My high level concept is a channel or group DM concept that simply lets me send a broadcast message or messages over time (no mentions) to a defined group of recipients. If the a recipient in the channel replies, I have to respond in their thread. The recipient only ever sees their threads.
As a user, I can use markdown hyperlink formatting in messages.
Allow the use of the very popular markdown syntax for hyperlinks : [Displayed Text](http//some-link.co)
Opening Conversations in Different Windows
I would love to be able to open different instances of Slack in separate windows. So I could have my main slack open in one window and then open a separate window that is specifically just for that person's conversation or only for a specific channel.
A second channel type - threaded channel - would help keeping the overview in channels dedicated to discussing many topics in parallel. In these channels under each top-Level-message sits a button „reply“, which Posts automatically in the message‘s thread. For creating a new top-Level-message one has to click on „new topic“ or the like, which would replace the current „send“-button. No complex user-roles, rather simple UI-changes, still much better than at the moment.
Let me hide the channels sidebar
I recently noticed that Slack has limitations on port size, I assume due to the nature of the application. One resourceful way you could correct this is to turn the sidebar into a drawer, similar to text editing applications like Atom or Sublime. This feature would probably be useful for all users, but extremely useful for users trying to manage screen space.
Slack status icon within MacOS menu bar
Currently on MacOS when I receive a direct message a red dot appears on the slack icon within the dock. I have my dock hidden for extra screen real estate, so rely on the bounce to notify me on incoming messages, however I don't always respond straight away. If I'm concentrating on something I would completely forget about it! (My team probably hate me for this). When I use ubuntu however there is a slack icon in the top menu bar. I would like to see this feature as an option on the MacOS application. It would be a preferable reminder for me that a message is waiting to be read. Attached is a poorly drawn example!
